“Teachings of Mother” to guide the Church of God members around the World

The “Teachings of Mother” refer to the words of wisdom given by God the Mother to humanity. More specifically, they encompass thirteen core virtues that God the Mother personally demonstrated and taught Her children to live by. These teachings emphasize love for humanity and serve as a guide for righteous living.

Members of the World Mission Society Church of God earnestly strive to embody these teachings in their daily lives, reflecting the character of Christ through their actions. As Christ said, “You are the light of the world . . . let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven,”[1] the “Teachings of Mother” provides a practical and heartfelt way to fulfill this calling.

Teachings of Mother

  • As God always gives love, giving love is more blessed than receiving love.[2]
  • When we give glory to God, that glory will be ours in the end.[3]
  • When we look at things beautifully without hatred in our hearts, we can achieve perfect love.[4]
  • As Abraham received more blessings when he yielded for his nephew Lot, we, too, will receive more blessings when we yield for our brothers and sisters.[5]
  • Arrogance is feeling disappointed when our expectations are not met.[6]
  • Although others do not work, let us work faithfully without complaining. When we work with the mindset of an owner, we can work with joy and ease.[7]
  • Arrogance arises from a heart full of complaint. When we always serve God with gratitude, arrogance and complaint disappear, and humility will dwell in our hearts.[8]
  • When we compliment our brothers and sisters, compliments will return to us.[9]
  • As the sea receives all the dirt and purifies it, we should have a broad and beautiful heart to embrace the faults of our brothers and sisters.[10]
  • Whoever wants to be led by the Lamb should become a lamb smaller than the Lamb.[11]
  • Sacrifice is needed in the process of becoming a greater vessel.[12]
  • Even God came to serve, not to be served. When we serve one another without wanting to be served, God will be pleased.[13]
  • We should endure present sufferings for the Kingdom of Heaven will be ours.[14]

Practicing the Teachings of Mother

The “Teachings of Mother” emphasize love, humility, consideration, gratitude, compliment, sacrifice, service, and patience. These teachings play a vital role in strengthening unity and harmony within the church. For example, regardless of age, position, or title, Church of God members practice mutual respect by using polite and thoughtful language in their daily interactions.[15] In 2017, the “I’m Sorry” movement encouraged members to reflect on whether they may have hurt others—intentionally or unintentionally—and to offer sincere apologies, along with words of comfort and encouragement.[16]

Under the slogan, “Students at school, workers at workplaces, soldiers in the military, and housewives at home,” Church of God members strive to live out the “Teachings of Mother” not only within the church but also in their everyday lives.[17][18] These teachings are also the driving force behind the church’s charitable and volunteer efforts. Inspired by God the Mother’s example, members actively engage in acts of kindness and service—such as street cleanups, blood donations, disaster relief, and helping farmers—to bring hope and love to their neighbors and communities.[19][20][21]
