Since he was appointed as the ASEZ advisory committee member in July 2019, he has been working with ASEZ.

Summary of ASEZ Meeting With Jerome Glenn

Futurist Jerome Glenn is the CEO of the Millennium Project[2][3][4] and was the Executive Director of the United Nations University from 1998 to 2007. After that, he has served as an advisor in various international organizations and government agencies such as the UN Development Programme [UNDP], the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization [UNESCO], the UN Food and Agriculture Organization [FAO], the UN Environment Program [UNEP], and the United States Agency for International Development [USAID], predicting future changes and proposing directions for the advancement of humanity and the global community.[5]

ASEZ, the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group, invited Jerome Glenn and had a meeting two times in May and June, 2019. While listening to the opinion of the senior scholar, the students asked about the role of university students in bringing changes to the world, introduced ASEZ activities, and talked about practical measures for a sustainable future.

The 2nd meeting was held on June 26. More than 530 members participated in the meeting held at the New Jerusalem Pangyo Temple in Korea to see the role of university students for a sustainable future. Through panels and presentations, university students introduced the activities that ASEZ has been carrying out, and actively asked questions while listening to Jerome Glenn in the Q&A session. Glenn sincerely answered their questions about “how to accept and utilize collective intelligence and how to cooperate with each city to bring about changes.” After seeing ASEZ activities held in various countries around the world, he praised that a lot of university students are taking action.[7]

After the meeting, he remarked, “I was impressed by the university students who went directly to the disaster-stricken areas. It was nice to talk about what should be done in the world, today.”[8]

In 1996, Jerome Glenn established the Millennium Project, a global think tank, and has been studying the pending and future issues. The Millennium Project aims to improve humanity’s prospects for building a better future and to build a global collective intelligence system with the ability to improve prospects for humanity, and it currently has 71 Nodes around the world.[9] Additionally, by managing several projects, he outlines diverse possibilities in the rapidly evolving future scenarios and calls for global cooperation. The “15 Global Challenges,” in existence since 1996, identify fifteen international issues that pose threats to the future, and propose national and institutional cooperation to address them. Since 1997, he has published the State of the Future every year to predict various future trends.

The meeting between Jerome Glenn and ASEZ holds significance as it represents a meeting between a senior futurist and university students, leaders of the next generation. ASEZ emphasizes the importance of small-scale practices that solve current campus issues and make practical changes to global issues. In particular, ASEZ carries out various volunteer services, environmental cleanups, and awareness raising activities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Glenn referred to university students as the protagonists of future generations, and added, “As a futurist, I have a duty to give answers and advice to university students. It was a great time with the university students.”[6]

Later on, he was appointed as an advisory committee member of ASEZ. On July 19, 2019, ASEZ formed an advisory group to support its future activities at the Global ASEZ Summit held at the New Jerusalem Pangyo Temple in Korea. This encompasses experts from diverse fields, including Jerome Glenn, university presidents, professors, and local government leaders. This advisory group will fully support the activities of the ASEZ young adults.[10]
