Features
New Taipei City is the most populous region in Taiwan and one of the six special municipalities. It was formerly Taipei County under Taiwan Province but was upgraded to a special municipality in 2010 and renamed New Taipei City. Banqiao District, where the Church of God is located, is the heart of New Taipei City. It is home to the New Taipei City Hall and a major hub for transportation and commerce. The church’s surrounding area shares a common living sphere with Taipei City, as they are separated only by the Tamsui River. With numerous popular tourist attractions in both areas, they are constantly bustling with visitors. The Church of God in Taipei puts God’s love into practice by carrying out diverse activities for neighbors and local communities.
Church members actively clean high-traffic areas, including popular tourist spots such as Nanya Night Market, Ximending Shopping District, and the 228 Peace Memorial Park, as well as busy streets near Taipei Station, Banqiao Station, Fuzhong Station, and Xinpu Station. Their efforts help maintain a clean and pleasant environment for the community. Members of ASEZ, the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group, in Taipei, also conducted street cleanups in Hsinchu, a nearby city, helping raise public awareness of environmental protection.[1] In the Taipei Station area, they launched the “Reduce Crime Together” project to create a cleaner environment and help prevent crime. Meanwhile, ASEZ WAO, the Church of God Young Adult Volunteer Group, carried out the “No More GPGP” project in partnership with the Keelung City Environmental Bureau. As part of this initiative, they removed plastic waste from the Waimushan coastal trail and the coastal roads. A Keelung City Council member praised the initiative, stating, “These activities serve as a great foundation for raising awareness about the importance of environmental preservation. Your participation helps raise awareness of environmental issues and contributes to improving the nation’s environment.”[2]
The local members take the lead in helping neighbors in need. In 2014, in collaboration with the government, they donated rice to the New Taipei City Ren’ai Tzu-Chi Senior Citizens’ Home. They also regularly organize blood drives, actively contributing to life-saving efforts.
In 2017, the ASEZ Global Forum on the Implementation of the UN SDGs was held at the GIS Convention Center of National Taiwan University, led by university student members of the church. ASEZ members from Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Taichung collaborated with experts from various fields, including a professor from National Chung Hsing University, to discuss strategies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).[3] In addition to these efforts, young adults of the Church of God in Taipei have been actively engaging in diverse initiatives, such as hosting online Bible seminars to share biblical truths with attendees.
With a spirit of goodwill like that of the Good Samaritan, the Church of God in Taipei has made significant contributions to the community and society. In recognition of their efforts, they have received appreciation awards from officials, including the Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau[4][5] and the Director of Taipei Blood Center.[6] Additionally, ASEZ members in Taipei were honored with a certificate of appreciation from the Mayor of Hsinchu City.[7]
