Features

The WMC Training Institute, established in Seogwipo, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, is the fifth training facility of the Church of God, following the Jounyisan Training Institute, Elohim Training Institute, Okcheon Go&Come Training Institute, and Dongbaek Training Institute. With the rapid increase in members both domestically and internationally, there arose a need for additional facilities to support education, gatherings, events, visits from overseas visiting groups, and community engagement. As a result, the WMC Training Institute was established in 2015. On August 6, 2016, the dedication service for the Church of God in Jeju was held, along with a joint worship service celebrating the establishment of the WMC Training Institute.[1][2]

Jeju Island, where the WMC Training Institute is located, is South Korea’s most popular tourist destination. Situated at the southernmost tip of the Korean Peninsula, it serves as a geographical hub connecting land and sea, offering a strategic location for international exchange—not only with neighboring Japan to the east and China to the west, but also with the broader global community. Thanks to these advantages, since the 1990s, world leaders have visited Jeju to discuss global peace, establishing its role as the “Island of World Peace.”[3] The island is home to over 360 oreum (volcanic cones) and more than 160 lava caves, showcasing a diverse volcanic landscape. Its natural ecosystems, traditional houses, and the unique culture of the haenyeo (female divers) are also well preserved. Due to its outstanding natural and cultural value, Jeju has been uniquely designated as all three of UNESCO’s major protected areas: a Global Geopark, a Biosphere Reserve, and a World Heritage Site.[4]

Building on these geographical and cultural strengths, the WMC Training Institute is expected not only to serve as a place for strengthening members’ faith, but also to function as a platform for civil diplomacy—introducing Korea to people from around the world.
