Meeting with President John Agyekum Kufuor of Ghana

Ghana is a country in West Africa bordered by the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. Known for its well-developed mining industry and abundant gold production, it was once called the “Gold Coast” before gaining independence from Britain. To the north of Accra lies Lake Volta, the world’s largest man-made lake.

The Church of God in Accra was founded in 2005. After a member who had received the truth in South Korea returned to their home country in 2004, Korean missionaries followed to support the gospel work in Ghana, accelerating evangelism efforts.[1] Even before the Church was officially established, members of the Church of God in Korea had been striving to deliver God’s love to the people of Ghana. In 2003, during the Daegu Summer Universiade, the Church of God’s Aurah Supporters held welcome and farewell ceremonies for Ghanaian athletes and cheered them on at every game with powerful chants.[2] In 2006, during the Korea–Africa Forum held in Seoul, Ghana’s President John Agyekum Kufuor, who was visiting Korea for the event, personally expressed his gratitude to the Church of God for their support.[3] In July 2017, international students from 30 countries, including Ghana, attended an invitational event at the New Jerusalem Pangyo Temple. The event was designed to comfort those living far from home and to convey a mother’s love.[4]

Provision of hygiene supplies to public schools in the Ngleshie Amanfro area of Ga South

Following the example of Christ’s love and the heart of God the Mother, members in Ghana actively carry out various volunteer services for their communities and neighbors. They conduct environmental cleanups in busy areas near the church and along crowded beaches,[5] and they have collected trash around Mamprobi Hospital. The Church’s university student volunteer group ASEZ is also very active. Its members have carried out cleanup activities around the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Korle Bu, and along Adjiringano Road as part of the ‘Reduce Crime Together” project. In August 2019, Korean members visiting Ghana appeared on Silver 98.3 FM to promote environmental campaigns.[6] Earlier that year, in January, they signed an MOU with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, pledging ongoing collaboration.[7]

After schools in Ghana reopened in January 2021 following closures due to the government’s COVID-19 measures,[8] the Church members in Accra offered both material and emotional support to help students return to school safely. Upon learning that many schools lacked proper handwashing facilities, they provided hygiene supplies to 32 public schools in Accra and 45 in Ga South. The Ga South Education Director, Henry Ayettey, stated, “This support will greatly aid the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus.”[9]

Additionally, members of the Church of God in Accra have launched a blood drive to share life and promote a culture of giving—continuing to make a positive impact in society as Christians who follow God Elohim.
