Features

Australia is the largest country in Oceania, with over 90% of its land comprising deserts and plateaus. Most major cities are concentrated along the eastern coastline, and the population exceeds 25 million.

Due to its vast territory, Australia features diverse climates and natural environments, including tropical rainforests, plains, and rocky deserts. Australia’s unique and diverse natural environments have been acknowledged for their significance, leading to the designation of 66 wetlands as protected areas under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands as of April 2022.[1] Additionally, 12 regions have been recognized as UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites, while 4 regions have been designated as UNESCO Mixed Heritage Sites.[2]

The Church of God in Sydney, initially established as a house church in the early 2000s, has experienced rapid growth and constructed a church building in April 2016. Sydney, the largest city in Australia, is home to approximately one-fourth of the country’s population. Notable landmarks include the Sydney Opera House, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is the fourth-longest arch bridge in the world, and the expansive Sydney Harbour National Park, covering 3.92 million square meters.

The Church of God in Sydney is dedicated to caring for the local community and fostering a healthy environment while practicing the teachings of God Elohim. Amid the serious issues of desertification and large-scale wildfires caused by climate change across Australia,[3] church members are diligently working to restore the environment and create a pleasant community. They regularly clean parks and roads while conducting environmental awareness campaigns.[4][5] In January 2018, they launched the “Mother’s Street” project in collaboration with members of the Korean ASEZ members who visited Sydney.[6] The church participated in the Australian government’s forest protection program, contributing to climate change mitigation by removing weeds and planting seedlings.[7]

In accordance with the Bible’s teaching,[8] “Love your neighbor as yourself,” the church actively engages in activities that benefit the local community. In December 2012, proceeds from a charity event were allocated to support sports facilities and equipment for local youth centers.[9] Furthermore, in April 2015, the church provided essential supplies to victims of a cyclone in the Hunter-Wallarong area, assisting in their recovery efforts.[10] The church also organizes blood drives in collaboration with local blood banks to assist patients in need of blood transfusion.[11][12] In September 2016, a family invitation event was held at the church, during which members showcased performances such as music and choral singing, creating moments of joy and happiness for their neighbors and families.[13]
