Features
Argentina is the second-largest country in South America, stretching approximately 3,700 km (2,300 mi) from north to south. The Church of God in Vicente López is located in Buenos Aires Province, at the mouth of the Río de la Plata, which is the largest and most populated area in the province.[1]
After the Church of God was established in Peru for the first time in South America in 1998, the gospel of the new covenant was also preached to Argentina. In January 2001, a church was established in Buenos Aires, and now the Church of God is established across Argentina, including in major cities like Santa Fe and Córdoba, and as far south as Ushuaia, the gateway to Antarctica.[2] The members fervently carry out the gospel mission[3] and deliver God’s love to their neighbors and communities through various volunteer services according to the teachings of the Bible.
Environmental Cleanup
The Church of God in Vicente López actively works to maintain a clean and pleasant urban environment through various initiatives across the community.
- Church members conduct cleanup efforts around the church area and in busy city streets, while also working to improve water quality at places like the La Plata River and Ricardo Rojas. In April 2019, they collected 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs) of litter over a 2-km (1.2 mi) stretch in San Martín Park.[4] Later that year, in August, they cleaned a 2-km section along the Buena Stream with the church members in Ushuaia.[5][6]
- ASEZ WAO members, the Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group, make efforts to prevent environmental pollution by carrying out the “No More GPGP” project and the “Mother’s Forest” project.[7] In February 2018, ASEZ WAO members planted trees and painted vibrant murals on rundown walls in Tigre with the church members in Buenos Aires, positively impacting the community’s environmental awareness.[8]
- In June 2018, ASEZ members, the University Student Volunteer Group, also conducted mural painting and tree planting in Tigre, with support from local officials. The mayor and city council members attended to show their encouragement for the students’ commitment to protecting the environment.[9] ASEZ continues to perform regular cleanup activities in streets, rivers, and campuses, working toward a more sustainable world.[10]
Neighborly Love
Following the biblical teaching, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” members of the church in this area actively help neighbors in need, providing support, comfort, and encouragement. In collaboration with local government offices, they regularly distribute food and essential items to economically vulnerable groups. As the COVID-19 pandemic impacted economies worldwide, the number of people in need in Argentina grew, prompting the church to step up its support efforts.
- In a large-scale blood drive, the church members join forces with nearby churches to help alleviate blood shortages. Many members actively participate, and hospitals in various regions have expressed their gratitude by awarding appreciation certificates to the church.
- In times of disaster, the church members promptly engage in recovery efforts and distribute relief supplies. When heavy rains led to flooding in the Vicente López area in April 2013, over 200 church members from the Buenos Aires region rushed to the affected area to assist with cleanup and recovery efforts. They also provided clothing, food, and school supplies to help neighbors in need and offer comfort.[11]
- They also make efforts to improve the academic environment of teenagers. In February 2017, at the request of the San Martín Municipality, members helped clean up the environment at Elementary School No. 85 of the United States of America.[12] They removed all classroom furniture, cleaned it, repainted the worn walls, and created a more welcoming space to help students focus on their studies.
- The church actively collaborates with local government offices to support underprivileged neighbors. In July 2020, church members across Argentina delivered face masks, food, and essential items to people facing hardships due to COVID-19.[13][14] Inspired by the church’s efforts, a member of parliament proposed additional volunteer activities. In response, the church donated cooking oil and food items to free meal programs and families in need in Vicente López. They also assisted in distributing government-provided food to households.
- As part of the “Heart to Heart” initiative, ASEZ WAO members reached out to support healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. They shared handwritten letters of encouragement and snack kits with hospitals, including San Isidro Municipal Maternity Hospital and a regional hospital in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, bringing warmth and encouragement to the healthcare staff.[15][16]
Raising Awareness
Young adults of the Vicente López Church actively seek to address global issues by organizing events like global forums and seminars to explore and implement solutions.
- On December 27, 2020, ASEZ members held a campaign at the University of Buenos Aires to mark Human Rights Day. They set up informational panels to introduce the Declaration of Human Rights and encouraged participants to support human rights advocacy. University students and citizens expressed strong support for ASEZ, pledging to join efforts to protect the rights of all people.
- In December 2017, the “ASEZ Global Forum for Implementing UN SDGs” took place. Experts from various fields analyzed global issues and proposed solutions, while ASEZ members highlighted their diverse campaigns and environmental activities, urging participants to join in efforts for the environmental improvement movement. Tigre Mayor Julio César Zamora, expressing high expectations for future activities, signed an MOU with ASEZ at the event.[17][18]
- The Church of God in Almagro, Buenos Aires, and other regional churches are also active in raising awareness. In October 2020, an online workshop on domestic violence prevention was held, featuring Attorney Marice Silva, representative of the support organization Grupo Sobrevivir for victims of domestic and sexual violence.[19] In December of the same year, a “Human Rights Day” seminar invited young adults to discuss ways they could contribute to protecting those whose rights are at risk.[20]

In 2019, it received certificates of appreciation from the Mayor and the Director of Religious Affairs in Merlo,[21] as well as from the Mayor of Tigre in 2018[22] and the Mayor of San Martín in 2016.[23]
