Features
Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, is a vibrant cultural center renowned for its rich heritage, reflecting influences from the Aztec and Maya civilizations. It functions as one of the economic hubs of South America and serves as the primary center for political, administrative, and educational activities within Mexico.
The Church of God was established in Mexico City in 2013. Since its founding, the membership has steadily increased, prompting a relocation to its current temple in 2020. Despite the predominance of Catholic culture in the region, members are dedicated to understanding the value of the new covenant gospel and adhering to the teachings of the Bible.[1] Following the example of the Good Samaritan from Jesus’ parables, they actively participate in activities that benefit their neighbors and society, thereby earning recognition from both the nation and its citizens.[2]
Members of the Church of God in Mexico City, Mexico, engage in diverse community service initiatives aimed at enhancing the local environment and supporting vulnerable populations. They participate in environmental cleanup efforts by collecting trash and removing weeds from streets and parks.[3][4] Additionally, they visit nursing homes to provide beauty services, recreational activities, and facility maintenance, bringing joy and comfort to the elderly.[5] The church members also show support for local firefighters at the central fire station in Toluca by delivering ramen (noodles) and drinks.[6] Medical professionals within the church offer assistance to underserved residents, providing medical consultations, prescriptions, and disease prevention services.[7] A representative from the Department of Family Health Services at the City Hall of Chilpancingo remarked, “This is the first free medical service offered by a church,” and encouraged ongoing efforts to improve public health. The church has been recognized for its contributions, receiving certificates of appreciation from the Chilpancingo City Hall, the Human Rights Protection Citizens Association, and the Social Integration Center.[8] In acknowledgment of their commitment to saving lives through blood drives, the national blood center awarded the church members a certificate on World Blood Donor Day.[9][10]
In September 2017, an 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mexico, resulting in significant damage in Oaxaca near the epicenter.[11][12] The Church of God in Mexico City, alongside members from the Puebla region, traveled ten hours to assist in recovery efforts and provide relief supplies. Many young and middle-aged volunteers took time off work to participate, driven by concern for residents who had lost loved ones and homes. At that time, Juchitán Mayor Gloria Sanchez Lopez commended the volunteers, stating, “They are embodying God’s love.” Health Minister Julisa Carrasco Sanchez also expressed deep admiration for the young volunteers, highlighting their empathy for those suffering.[13][14]
Young adult members of the Church of God in Mexico City actively promote community well-being and environmental improvement through ASEZ and ASEZ WAO initiatives. In 2016 and 2017, they collaborated with ASEZ members from Korea to visit the DIF National Nursery Central de Abasto branch twice, where they conducted classes in crafts, traditional Korean games, art, physical education, and human rights education. Marta Patricia, the branch manager, expressed her gratitude, stating, “The children were very happy to see the members again after last year. Thank you for helping them establish a proper understanding of human rights. Because of you, I hope everyone will join in sharing love.”[15][16]
ASEZ WAO organized a seminar on climate change response for officials from the Iztapalapa District Office. Participants recognized the seriousness of climate change and expressed support for the initiatives led by the young adults.[17] ASEZ WAO members introduced the “No More GPGP” initiative to the Mayor of Mexico City and the District Mayor Gustavo A. Madero, encouraging their involvement.[18] The organization continues to take proactive measures for humanity and the environment, including park cleanups and the planting of 20 saplings.[19]
Moreover, the young adults have been awarded certificates of appreciation from local governments and educational institutions for their significant contributions to the community. Their efforts include organizing a conference to improve crime awareness,[20] participating in environmental protection initiatives through the Mother’s Street Project,[21] and volunteering to paint murals at high schools to enhance the academic environment for students.[22][23][24]
