Features
Auckland, the most populous city in New Zealand, is renowned as a top vacation destination thanks to its mild climate, stunning landscapes, and numerous islands and beaches. In June 2021, The Economist, a British weekly magazine, ranked Auckland as the “World’s Most Livable City.”[1]
The members of the Church of God in Auckland take pride in practicing their faith at the very first Church of God established in New Zealand,[2] where they have embraced the truth of the new covenant given by God Elohim. In this multicultural city,[3] they unite under the common bond of “Mother’s Love,” fostering harmony among diverse communities. Their mission extends beyond Auckland, spreading the gospel throughout New Zealand, leading to the establishment of churches in Manukau and Christchurch on the South Island.[4] Furthermore, their outreach extends to neighboring island nations, supporting missionary work, volunteer efforts, and relief activities in countries such as Samoa, Fiji, and Tonga.
Dedicated to a Christian life of faith that brightens the world, members of the Church of God actively care for Auckland’s environment, extending helping hands to their neighbors.
In particular, they regularly conduct environmental cleanups, starting from near the church, to beautify the streets and natural landscapes of New Zealand.
- • September 2019: Cleaned a 2-km street near Henderson Lake, collecting 4 tonnes of trash.
- • December 2017: Cleaned the Henderson Mall area and a 5-km-long street near the train tracks.
- • September 2016: Cleaned around Henderson River, including under the bridge and deep in the thicket, collecting the equivalent of three truckloads of trash with support from the Waitakere Municipality, which provided garbage bags, gloves, and boots.[5]
In alignment with New Zealand’s national environmental protection efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change,[6] the church has also carried out tree-planting initiatives in Silverdale, Auckland:
- • June 2019: Planted 3,700 seedlings.
- • May 2018: Planted 800 seedlings alongside members of the 3rd Auckland Church, receiving a certificate of appreciation from the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board.[7]
The Church of God also supports life-saving efforts by holding regular blood drives to help neighbors in need of blood transfusions.
- • November 2020: Amid a drastic decline in blood donors due to COVID-19, the church organized a blood drive in collaboration with nearby branch churches, donating approximately 46 liters of blood.
- • February 2016: Held a blood drive with the 3rd Church of God in Auckland. The New Zealand Blood Service, which supported the event, presented a certificate of appreciation to the Church of God.[8]
