Features

Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, is located at the southernmost tip of the North Island, positioned between the North and South Islands. Though it serves as the administrative capital, Wellington remains a peaceful and beautiful city, free from the hustle and bustle of larger metropolises. Overlooking the Cook Strait, this port city is home to Te Papa Tongarewa, New Zealand’s national museum, and Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne (formerly the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary), the world’s first fully fenced urban eco-sanctuary.

If New Zealand were imagined as a village of 100 people, 24 would be immigrants[1]—an illustration of the country’s rich cultural diversity. In Wellington, people from neighboring island nations such as Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, and Tuvalu, as well as from Asia, Europe, South America, and North America, live together in harmony.

The Church of God in Wellington is also composed of members from many different countries and continents. Despite their diverse appearances, cultures, and lifestyles, they are united as one “heavenly family” through the shared blessing of having inherited God’s flesh and blood by keeping the New Covenant Passover. Crossing borders and cultures, they express brotherly love and preach the gospel of the new covenant, with the hope that many more will become children of God the Father and God the Mother and receive the blessing of heaven.

Members of the Church of God in Wellington actively lead efforts to keep their community clean through ongoing cleanup initiatives. As part of the “Mother’s Street” project, members of all ages participated in cleaning the Johnsonville area. ASEZ WAO members contributed to ecological preservation by removing invasive thorn bushes that harm native plant ecosystems. ASEZ student volunteers also picked up litter in the Grenada North area and on the Victoria University campus. Their efforts laid the foundation for sustained volunteer work through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Wellington City Council. In recognition of ASEZ’s environmental and social contributions, the city council issued a letter of appreciation.[2]

The Church members also take initiative in saving lives by organizing blood drives in partnership with the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Blood Service. At the heart of their compassion for neighbors in need of transfusions is the love of Christ, who established the New Covenant Passover through the blood of His sacrifice on the cross and opened the way to salvation for all humanity.
