Features
The name “Namibia” originates from the Namib Desert, which covers 80% of the country’s land. The Namib Desert is the world’s only coastal desert, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks to its abundant sunlight and strong winds, Namibia is gaining attention as a producer of clean energy, particularly green hydrogen.[1] Windhoek, the capital city where the Church of God was first established in Namibia, is the country’s commercial and industrial hub, located at the center of the nation. Trains operate between Windhoek and the Republic of South Africa, facilitating travel and trade. Notable attractions in the city include the Independence Memorial Museum and an exhibition of meteorites that fell in the Gibeon area.
The members of the Church of God in Namibia came to know God the Father and God the Mother through the members of the Republic of South Africa. Since then, they have been keeping the truth of the new covenant and striving to share God’s love and blessings at their workplaces, schools, and homes.[2] Additionally, they have actively participated in missionary work, traveling to Swakopmund, the country’s second-largest city, for short-term missions.[3] Together with members in Cape Town and Bellville, Republic of South Africa, they have also supported missionary efforts in Cairo, Egypt, spreading hope and happiness throughout Africa.[4]
Young adults took part in the South Africa Youth Camp held at the Church of God in Cape Town, Republic of South Africa. There, they deeply studied the Bible and fostered meaningful bonds with fellow members from various countries, transcending national borders.[5] Students at the Namibia University of Science and Technology have formed the African University Bible Academy (AUBA) club, where they devote themselves with passion to both their studies and faith on campus.[6] The Headquarters of the Church of God supports the faith growth of the members in this region by translating and distributing video sermons and New Songs not only in English, the official language, but also in widely spoken local languages such as Afrikaans and German.
The members of the Church of God in Windhoek actively practice love as Christians by cherishing their community and helping those in need through diverse initiatives. They have carried out cleanup campaigns in key areas such as Independence Avenue, Harvey Street, and UN Plaza, making the environment cleaner and more pleasant. Their efforts have also positively influenced public awareness of environmental protection. When they carried out a cleanup campaign around the sports field in the Cimbebasia area in 2012, the national broadcaster NBC covered the event on-site.[7]
Additionally, ASEZ and ASEZ WAO actively practice environmental conservation through various projects such as Mother’s Street, No More GPGP, and Green Earth projects. Their activities have taken place in locations, including the University of Namibia, the Namibia University of Science and Technology, and Goreangab Recreational Park. In January 2020, local members joined ASEZ WAO members from Korea at Okahandja Vyf Rand for a cleanup campaign.[8] They also appeared on National Radio and the TV program “Good Morning Namibia” to raise awareness of the severity of environmental pollution. The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) pledged active support for the youth initiatives, while the Windhoek Municipality held discussions with the members to explore detailed cooperation plans.[9]
Following Christ’s example of sacrifice and love, the members make efforts to ensure that no one is left behind. They regularly held blood drives to save patients who needed blood transfusions, and visited local child welfare facilities to clean the inside and outside of the facilities, making good memories by having recreation with the children.
