Features

The Netherlands is located in Western Europe and borders Germany and Belgium. It is known for its windmills and tulips which have become symbols for the country. Twenty-six percent of the land is below sea level, so windmills were built in many places to prevent seawater from overflowing. Since the late 16th century, tulips, which are suitable for climatic conditions, have been cultivated and studied extensively in the country.[1][2]

The Netherlands was first introduced to the Church of God during the Daegu Summer Universiade 2003. The Church of God showed its support for the Dutch athletes by welcoming them, providing translation, and cheering for them during the games. The members also introduced the athletes to Korean culture such as the beauty of hanbok (traditional Korean clothes) by showing them traditional wedding clothes. The team leader, Hans van Rooijen, was impressed by the members' enthusiasm and wanted to maintain a good relationship with the church.[3]

In 2006, Korean missionaries were sent to the Netherlands and the Church of God was established in Amsterdam, and then in Rotterdam three years later. Rotterdam, located in the province of Zuid-Holland, is the second largest city in the Netherlands. It has many cultural attractions such as the Museum Boijmans van Beuningenand the Maritime Museum. Every year, the city holds the annual International Film Festivalso that guests can enjoy culture and art. The Port of Rotterdam is the largest seaport in Europe and serves as a hub for European trade.[4]

The members of the Church of God in Rotterdam observe God’s teachings recorded in the Bible. In the past, members have traveled to Korea as part of the Overseas Visiting Group[5][6] to experience the love of God the Father and God the Mother and study the truth of the new covenant more deeply. With a greater understanding of biblical teachings and Mother’s love, they strive to set good examples as Christians by carrying out volunteer services to help build unity within their communities.

They bring great excitement and enthusiasm into cities by holding street cleanups to protect the environment[7][8] and hosting blood drives to save many lives.[9] They also held the Gift Donation Event to Help Sick Children for about two weeks at the square in Hoogstraat to deliver hope and encouragement to children.[10] In addition to this, they show love to their neighbors by visiting nursing homes to help senior citizens go for a walk outside.[11]

ASEZ members in this region carried out a crime prevention campaign with Korean members who visited during their vacation to deliver a message of hope. They said, ”Let’s make a crime-free world together with Mother’s love.” ASEZ WAO members are also carrying out environmental improvement activities such as street cleanups, reducing plastic use campaigns, and planting trees in cooperation with public institutions to let the community know about the importance of protecting the environment.[12]
