The Church of God in São Paulo is the first church established in Brazil. It began with the gospel efforts of a Korean family who had immigrated, leading to the establishment of Zion in São Paulo. Churches were subsequently built in Manaus, Salvador, Brasília, and other regions, accelerating the mission work.[3] Some members participated in the Overseas Visiting Group program, traveling to Korea to obtain a deeper understanding of the new covenant truths and strengthen their faith. Inspired by the love of God Elohim, members, with unwavering belief in the Second Coming Christ and God the Mother, devote themselves to preaching the gospel across Brazil.[4] Lately, video content from the Church of God about the truths of the new covenant has been translated into multiple languages and distributed through platforms like YouTube, promoting online mission efforts.[5]

Following the teaching of Christ to “be the salt and light of the world,” members take the lead in improving the local environment with care for nature and neighbors. In areas facing environmental challenges due to rapid growth, members work to keep urban spaces clean by picking up litter in places like Benjamin Schalch Square and Guaianases Train Station.[6] ASEZ, the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group, conducted cleanups near the Federal University of ABC and Military Police Unit College, while ASEZ WAO, the Church of God Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group, organized efforts around Iotiopé Square and ETEC Aprígio. These activities aim to raise environmental awareness among students and citizens. Lee Su-yeon, an ASEZ member from Korea who participated in cleanup efforts in Brazil, said, “I’m happy to contribute to helping the world through volunteer work.”[7]

In December 2022, the World Mission Society Church of God was awarded the Legislative Merit Medal (Medalha Mérito Legislativo) in Brazil.[10] Established in 1983, this prestigious medal is presented to individuals, organizations, or institutions that have made significant contributions to the nation and its legislature, earning widespread recognition. As Brazil’s highest legislative honor, the medal is awarded annually, with candidates recommended by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies and party leaders, followed by a thorough review process to select the recipients.[11]

The award ceremony took place on December 7 at the National Congress in Brasília. Odair Cunha, the Second Secretary of the Chamber of Deputies, who hosted the ceremony, introduced the Church of God by stating, “The Church of God is working not only in environmental, health, and welfare activities across all 27 states of Brazil and worldwide, but also in relief efforts for vulnerable groups in desperate need of help, contributing to the development and improvement of the global community.” Following this, the Church of God General Pastor Kim Joo-cheol, who was visiting Brazilian churches, received the medal and certificate. General Pastor Kim said, “This is the result of all the members’ efforts, as they strive to fulfill the role of being the salt and light of the world with the love learned from God the Father and God the Mother. The Church of God will continue to serve with Mother’s heart, spreading love and serving others for the happiness and peace of the global community.”[12]
