Features

Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, is a large city where about half of the country’s population resides. It is recognized as the coldest capital city in the world due to its long winters and frequent blizzards.[1]

A Mongolian member who received the truth of the new covenant in Korea returned to his home country, leading to the dispatch of a Korean missionary. In September 2004, the Church of God was established in Ulaanbaatar. During the 2003 Daegu Summer Universiade, the missionary served as the vice president of the Church of God supporters for the Mongolian athletes, fostering a warm friendship with the Mongolian delegation.[2]

As Christians, the members of the Church of God in Ulaanbaatar reverently observe God’s feasts and strive to spread the love they have received from God throughout Mongolia. Actively engaging in volunteer services tailored to local communities, the Church of God has been recognized with citations from the Ministry of Health and the Capital City Emergency Department, along with multiple awards from government agencies and universities.

Sharing Love

Since 2012, the Church of God in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, has been conducting blood drives at least twice a year in cooperation with the National Center for Transfusion Medicine. The initiative of sharing lives through blood donations continued even during the COVID-19 pandemic. In recognition of their efforts, Erdenebayar Namjil, Director of the National Center for Transfusion Medicine, praised the Church of God volunteers for their significant role in preventing blood shortages.[3]

In response to COVID-19, the church provided both sanitation and livelihood support. In July 2020, it donated 10,000 face masks to the Ministry of Health for the safety and well-being of the public. Among them, 5,000 handmade cloth masks were carefully crafted by the members, reflecting their sincere hope for the end of the pandemic. D. Nyamkhuu, Director of the National Center of Communicable Diseases (NCCD) at the Ministry of Health, expressed his gratitude, stating, “The members of the Church of God, who take the lead in volunteering for the nation, have provided the most needed face masks during this globally difficult time, and I sincerely appreciate it.”[4][5] Additionally, church members visited the Bayangol District Office in Ulaanbaatar to deliver donations for the treatment of COVID-19 patients and food supplies for underprivileged families.[6][7][8]

The Church of God has consistently provided assistance tailored to Mongolia’s national circumstances. In October 2020, it supported a senior citizens’ banquet organized by the Bayanzürkh District 4 Office by donating snacks.[9] Additionally, in February 2017, it contributed 1,200 pairs of livestock gloves, including handmade gloves, to livestock farmers in preparation for the birthing season.[10] In December 2011, in celebration of the 94th anniversary of the sacred birth of Christ Ahnsahnghong, the church shared Christ’s love by donating funds for facility renovations and school supplies to the 88th National Kindergarten. This news was reported by various media outlets, including Ulaanbaatar SHUUD TV, SBN, TV5, and TV9.[11] Beyond these efforts, church members actively engage in various volunteer services, such as cultural events and gift-giving for local children. Responding to a request from a district office, they donated sewing machines for vocational training aimed at job creation and provided 500 syringes to the National Center of Communicable Diseases for measles prevention.

The Church of God in Ulaanbaatar continues to spread God’s love throughout Mongolia and hosts events to introduce the truth of the new covenant. On September 15, 2019, the “Happy Seminar for Workers” was held to awaken family love and provide citizens with a break from their busy lives.[12] Later, on February 28 and March 15, 2021, two seminars were held on the subject of the New Covenant Passover. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the events were conducted online in accordance with the government’s prevention guidelines, with a total of 2,400 participants from across the country joining.[13]

As Mongolia faces rapid desertification due to global warming,[14] members of the Church of God in Ulaanbaatar actively engage in street and forest cleanups, planting trees and cleaning polluted streets with a strong sense of ownership.[15]

The church’s young adult members are particularly involved in these efforts. In September 2021, young adults participated in the Ecological park development project at the request of the Bayangol District Office, donating and planting 500 elm trees. This park was designed to serve as a space for youth to experience nature and develop environmental awareness, making the initiative even more meaningful.[16][17] ASEZ, the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group, signed an MOU with the Mongolian University of Life Sciences in 2017 and has since been involved in campus landscaping and environmental improvements, raising awareness among students and citizens.[18][19] Recognizing their consistent campus cleanup efforts, the university president awarded both ASEZ and the church a certificate of appreciation.[20] At the Mongolian University of Agriculture, university students regularly participated in cleanup efforts, which were featured on four broadcast stations in January 2017.[21] During winter and summer vacations, ASEZ carries out various environmental campaigns in collaboration with Korean ASEZ members who visit Mongolia. These initiatives aim to raise public awareness and broaden citizens’ knowledge through cultural exchanges.[22][23]

H.E. Baasanjav Ganbold, Mongolian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, was deeply moved by ASEZ’s dedication to protecting the Earth and sent a congratulatory message to the “ASEZ Global Forum on the Implementation of the UN SDGs 2017” held at New Jerusalem Pangyo Temple in Korea. He remarked, “It is very innovative for a student organization to take the lead in raising awareness of environmental protection,” expressing his support for ASEZ’s meaningful activities.[24]

In January 2020, ASEZ WAO, the Church of God Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group, hosted the “No More GPGP” (Reducing Plastics) Seminar at the Bayanzürkh One Heart Center. The event was attended by approximately 80 participants, including workers from the Ulaanbaatar Municipality, the Bayanzürkh District Office, and the Amgalan Thermal Power Plant. Following the seminar, participants conducted a cleanup on Chulun-obo Street, raising awareness of environmental issues.[25] Additionally, ASEZ WAO continues to lead environmental cleanups in various locations, even on holidays.[26]
