Features
The United Arab Emirates, located in the southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula and sharing borders with Saudi Arabia and Oman, is a federal state composed of seven emirates. These include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman. Each emirate has its own ruler, making it a semi-independent state alongside the federal government. The capital of the UAE is Abu Dhabi, while Dubai is the largest city. Renowned for its organized cityscape, Dubai boasts iconic landmarks such as the artificial Palm Jumeirah island and the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, attracting millions of tourists annually.
The Church of God first established a connection with the United Arab Emirates during the 2003 Daegu Universiade. The Aura Supporters, a volunteer group composed of church members, warmly welcomed the UAE athletes visiting Korea for the competition, offering enthusiastic support through cheering and interpretation services. Abdullah Aziz Al-Hai Omar, the head of the UAE delegation, expressed his gratitude at a banquet hosted by church members, saying, “It felt like I was home. The cheers from the supporters during the competition energized me and helped us perform well.”[1]
In 2017, the Church of God was established in the United Arab Emirates, fostering warm, family-like bonds. The Church in Dubai serves as a spiritual haven for both local members and those who have moved to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for work or business assignments from Korea and other countries. Together, they continue their life of faith, sharing God’s love and brotherly affection. They deepen their understanding of God Elohim through Bible study, sermon books, the Truth Book, the church’s monthly magazine Elohist, and video sermons on its YouTube channel. As Christians, they also strive to fulfill their role as the salt and light of the world by engaging in volunteer activities, such as cleanup efforts along Oud Metha Road and around Dubai Healthcare City.
