Features
El Paso, located at the westernmost tip of Texas, sits at the base of the Franklin Mountains on a high plateau with an elevation of approximately 1,130 meters (3,710 feet) above sea level. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, El Paso has earned the nickname “The Sun City.”[1] Due to its location along the U.S.–Mexico border, English and Spanish are commonly spoken in El Paso. The strong influence of Latin American culture gives the city a unique and vibrant atmosphere.[2] Near the border, El Paso is home to several major military installations, including Fort Bliss, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, and the nearby White Sands Missile Range.
The members of the Church of God in El Paso, who believe in God Elohim and follow His teachings, diligently preach the gospel of the new covenant, the truth of salvation, and actively share and volunteer for local communities and neighbors. Church members support neighbors in need by donating food and funds to local food banks, and they take the lead in environmental cleanup efforts across areas like Oak Grove, Socorro, Scenic Drive, and Ascarate Park, helping keep their communities clean and well-maintained. In April 2021, in celebration of Earth Day, Church members cleaned up Dyer Street, helping raise environmental awareness among local residents.[3] The University student volunteer group (ASEZ) has regularly conducted cleanup activities in areas like San Jacinto Plaza and 6th Street. In 2019, they also joined forces with a cultural exchange team from Korea to help clean up McAllister Park.[4]
They also take part in the “Worldwide Blood Drive to Give Life Through the Love of the Passover,” contributing to saving lives threatened by blood shortages. In times of unexpected disasters, they actively step forward to help restore damaged areas, offering support and hope to neighbors in distress. In 2013, after severe flooding in the Vinton and Socorro areas, volunteers sought out heavily affected households to assist with recovery efforts. They also cleared large amounts of debris and trash that had accumulated throughout the streets.
The Church of God in El Paso was recognized for its dedicated service to the community, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Socorro in 2014,[5] and a Certificate of Recognition in 2018.[6]
