Features
Malawi is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa, bordered by Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique. A significant portion of its land is occupied by Lake Malawi, the third-largest lake in Africa. The country has two official languages: English and Chichewa. The capital city, Lilongwe, serves as Malawi’s administrative, commercial, and agricultural hub. Situated on a high plateau over 1,000 meters above sea level, Lilongwe enjoys a relatively cooler climate compared with other cities.
The Church of God in Lilongwe was officially established in August 2007, a result of the unity and dedication of members both locally and internationally. The gospel of the new covenant was first preached in Malawi by a member who had accepted God Elohim while in South Africa. He shared the teachings of the Bible in his hometown, supported by Korean members who visited on short-term mission trips. Even before the church’s official founding, its connection to Malawi began in 2003, when Aura Supporters of the Church of God cheered for the Malawian national team during the Daegu Summer Universiade in South Korea.[1][2]
The members of the Lilongwe Church are deeply committed to studying the Bible, and strengthening their faith in God’s truth. To support systematic and in-depth Bible study, the Church of God Headquarters provides Media Cast, the church’s video platform, in Chichewa.
Church members in Lilongwe are dedicated not only to spreading God’s gospel but also to helping their community through ongoing volunteer activities to fulfill the mission of Christians. One of their key initiatives is blood drives, ensuring a stable blood supply while promoting a culture of giving. In December 2012, a large-scale blood donation event was held and attended by Charles Mwansambo, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Health; Reuben Mwenda, the Deputy Director of Diagnostics Health Technical Support Services at the Ministry of Health; and Bridon M’baya, the Medical Director of the Malawi Blood Transfusion Service. The leaders praised the church members for their efforts, and the event was widely covered by TV stations and newspapers. Since then, the church has continued its lifesaving mission in Blantyre, Mzuzu, and other regions.[3]
Beyond blood donation, the Church of God also carries out environmental cleanups in high-traffic areas such as Kasungu Bus Terminal and Kamuzu Central Hospital. Seeing their dedication, local residents often express their appreciation and support. The Church of God in Lilongwe remains committed to serving its community, reaching out to those in need, and contributing to the well-being and happiness of the people of Malawi.[4]
