Features

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. Known as the “land of volcanoes and lakes,” it features numerous large lakes formed by volcanic activity. Among them, Lake Nicaragua is the largest lake on the continent. Once part of the ocean, Lake Nicaragua became enclosed inland as the land rose due to volcanic eruptions. The name “Nicaragua” is believed to be a combination of the name of an indigenous chief, Nicarao, and the Spanish word agua, meaning “water.”[1]

The members of the Managua Church of God boldly preach the word of God,[2] which is likened to the water of life, and testify about the Spirit and the Bride,[3] the source of the water of life—that is, God the Father and God the Mother. They also strive to be the salt and light of the world, serving their community and promoting environmental awareness through cleanup campaigns that help keep the city clean.

Church members cleaned along the busy street in front of Roberto Huembes Market, and also helped clean the National Zoo of Nicaragua, contributing to a safer and cleaner environment for citizens. In December 2017, as part of the “Mother’s Street” project, members carried out a cleanup near the University of Commercial Sciences, encouraging local residents to participate and raise awareness. In addition to environmental efforts, the Church conducts various volunteer activities rooted in the love of Christ, seeking to bring happiness and hope to their neighbors.

The Church of God has long supported the global family with a mother’s heart, transcending national borders, races, and cultural differences. In 2003, during the Daegu Universiade in Korea, church members warmly served athletes from 174 countries, including Nicaragua. They provided comprehensive support—including interpreting, cheering as “Aura Supporters,” emergency hotlines, and welcome and farewell ceremonies—so that athletes could focus on their competitions without concern. In 2017, the Church of God hosted the “Our Mother” Seminar at the New Jerusalem Pangyo Temple in Korea, inviting international students to share in the warmth and love of a mother’s heart. Among the participants was Adeline Bacón, a Nicaraguan student at Anyang University, who shared: “As a student majoring in international medical policy, I often have to consult with patients. I realized that if I treat them with a mother’s heart, it can be of greater help. It was a wonderful time that helped ease the longing for my mother, who I haven’t seen for a year, and also taught me how to treat patients with a warm heart.”[4]
