Features
Before the Church of God was officially established in Durban, South Africa, local members had already received the truth of the new covenant through short- and long-term missionary teams from Korea and members from Cape Town and other regions. They cherished God’s commandments and remained steadfast in their faith in God Elohim. Recently, they have been studying the Bible in-depth through the Zulu video sermons produced by the Headquarters to better accommodate the local community, where Zulu is spoken more frequently than English. Young adults from various regions, including Cape Town, Pretoria, and Johannesburg, as well as young adults from Southern African countries such as Zambia and Zimbabwe, gathered at the Church in Cape Town to strengthen their passion for the gospel.[1]
Durban, located in KwaZulu-Natal Province, is one of the most populous cities in the Republic of South Africa with approximately 3.2 million people (as of January 2023).[2] The Church of God in Durban actively engages in diverse activities to spread the love of Christ to many residents and extends a helping hand to those in need. Members visited local nursing homes multiple times to share joy through cultural events and companionship, offering seniors warmth and encouragement.[3][4][5] ASEZ, the university student volunteer group, spent meaningful time with children at child and youth welfare centers, joined by visiting members from Korea.[6] ASEZ WAO, the young adult worker volunteer group, showed appreciation and respect for healthcare workers at Life Entabeni Hospital by delivering snack kits during the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing their dedication to public health.[7]
Church members are also actively engaged in beautifying the environment. They regularly carry out cleanups on the streets and beaches to protect the environment while making a positive impact on the community.[8][9][10][11] In December 2012, when members collected trash around the Berea Market area, the Education and Environment Manager of Durban City Hall personally visited the site and expressed gratitude, saying, “The Church of God is the first private organization to support environmental cleanup in this area.”[12]
In April 2022, when record-breaking heavy rains caused severe damage in Durban, church members took part in flood recovery efforts at Country Club Beach. Volunteers worked diligently to clear the beach, which was covered in debris such as trash and fallen tree branches, helping the community return to normal life.
