Features
Pretoria, the administrative capital of the Republic of South Africa, is an important region within Tshwane, Gauteng. The city boasts numerous historical and natural attractions, including the Voortrekker Monument, the Union Buildings, the Pretoria National Botanical Garden, and the National Zoological Garden of South Africa. Additionally, Pretoria serves as a key educational hub, home to institutions such as the University of South Africa’s Muckleneuk Campus, the University of Pretoria, and the Tshwane University of Technology.
The Church of God in Pretoria began in February 2012 in a small worship space and was officially established in 2016. Members diligently study the Bible and strive to live according to God’s will. They are also committed to sharing the new covenant with their families and neighbors. One member, after learning the truth, shared it with their family in Mmakau, leading to the establishment of a place of worship there.[1]
The members of the Church of God in Pretoria, striving to follow the example of God Elohim, actively participate in volunteer activities to protect the environment and support their neighbors. They have conducted environmental cleanup campaigns in various locations, including the Voortrekker Monument, Hennops River,[2] Jorissen Street,[3] Nelson Mandela Drive,[4][5] and the Union Buildings,[6] etc. These efforts have not only enhanced the city’s dignity but also raised public awareness of environmental conservation.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] Additionally, they have worked to remove invasive plant species that hinder the growth of native vegetation and have undertaken painting projects at local playgrounds and tennis courts, improving both aesthetics and safety.[16][17][18][19]
Saving lives through blood drives is one of the members’ core volunteer activities.[20][21][22][23] They have consistently organized blood drives in collaboration with members of the Church of God in Johannesburg, contributing to stable blood supply efforts. To support elderly individuals, who often experience loneliness in their later years, they have also organized cultural events at nursing homes. In September 2021, members of the ASEZ WAO, the Church of God Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group, took part in the Heart to Heart Project to support frontline public health workers. As part of this initiative, they delivered handwritten letters and snacks to the medical staff at Jubilee District Hospital in Hammanskraal, recognizing their dedication to COVID-19 prevention efforts.
The Church of God in Pretoria, wholeheartedly dedicated to serving the local community and neighbors, has been honored with certificates of appreciation from the Tshwane City Council,[24] Tshwane Municipality,[25] and Tshwane City Councilors.[26]
